2008 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest

- Embedded System Design Invitational Contest

2006 Intel Cup Winners

In 2006, 158 teams from 70 invited universities, including 9 teams from APAC universities participated in the contest. Two platforms were provided, one is based on the Intel® PXA270 processor, while another is based on Embedded Intel Architecture (EIA). The Intel Cup was awarded to two teams, one from each platform respectively.

The Intelligent Navigation System in automobile & Interactive Rich Information Flat based on XML (South West Jiaotong University)

Students: Xiao Yixiang, Liu Jinzhu, Yi Zhuolin

Mentor: Yang Bin

Platform: EIA beased platform

Abstract: In recent years, electronic consumer products have witnessed a robust momentum due to the rapid development and powerful technical support of XML represented by Web2.0, Wap 2.0, etc, together with the improvement of people's living standard and flourish of data service market. A number of automobile owners especially long for valid data services, communication, entertainment and highly secure alarm system. Our system makes full use of the hardware resources of Intel Gene8310 and extends the external hardware. With the help of Windows XP which has advanced image process ability, our system takes on a wonderful user interface. The system adopts abundant technologies to realize the functions of Multi-Monitor, characterized interactive human-machine communication, GPS navigation, remote monitor, net radio station, multi-person video conference, etc. It satisfies automobile owners' additional demands, and provides a complete solution of rich-information, multi-function onboard system, and constructs a smart onboard navigation system and rich-information platform with powerful functions and extendable abilities.

Intelligent Mobile Human Identification System ¨C Follow Me Robot (The Chinese University of Hong Kong)

Students: Fu Kah Kuen, Cheung Kin Wang, Cheung Siu Ming

Mentor: Cheung Lap Chi

Platform: PXA270 based  platform

Abstract£ºOur project aims at developing a robot, called ¡°Follow-Me¡± Robot, which has the features of face recognition and motion tracking. The robot is able to first perform face recognition for the user to check whether he/she is the master and then follow him/her. The core of the system is built using an Intel PXA270 microprocessor with Linux operation system and QT/Embedded GUI. We have integrated several features to form an intelligent robot, including face recognition based on Elastic Bunch Graph Matching (EBGM) and a motion tracking function using block matching algorithm. The system provides a user-friendly interface which allows users to manage the robot easily. ¡°Follow-Me¡± can serve many industrious applications although its initial application is a high-end, intelligent toy.
