2022 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest

2022 Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest-Embedded System Design Invitational Contest (Intel Cup Embedded System Design Contest: ESDC), is initiated by PRC Ministry of Education and Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and solely sponsored by Intel Corporation since 2002. This biannual contest provides an opportunity for top undergraduate students to design an innovational working system based on an assigned Intel embedded platform over a period of three months. Each team consists of no more than three undergraduate students, plus a faculty mentor.

 

To empower undergraduates with critical technology and social skills that are essential to thrive in the digital economy, and provide an international platform for students to communicate and learn from each other, 2022 Intel Cup Embedded System Design Contest is now calling for international participants, one team from each university invited. All participant teams get latest embedded hardware platforms and related software empowered by Intel.

 

1. Key Dates

1)  Registration due: April 10, 2022 for confirming team engagement and May 31, 2022 for team member information registration

2)  Contest period: March 31~June 30, 2022

3)  Project Topic submission deadline: May 31, 2022

4)  Final reports submission deadline: July 1, 2022

5)  Appraisal period: July 20~July 25, 2022

 

2. Eligibility

 

This invitational contest only opens to universities invited by contest committee. Every participant should be actively enrolled as a student in an accredited college/university during the contest. Each team should consist of no more than three undergraduate students, and a faculty mentor.

 

3. Platform

 

The theme of 2022 ESDC contest is: AI, AI Supported Machine Deep Learning System, and Edge Computing.

 

Each participant team will be provided an embedded IA platform as mandatory board: GNS-V40 Board based on Intel® Tiger Lake 11th Gen Core i5 CPU, with the corresponding Intel software. All teams must develop systems on the assigned board. In addition, each participant team can also apply for one extra Intel FPGA board (DE10-Lite or DE10-Nano-SoC) and Habana resources based on project needs. The detail application and approval process for FGPA board and Habana will be announced on ESDC official website.

 

4. Timetable

    1)Registration

The registration includes two stages:

i)    Registration of university contact person and the number of teams participating in the contest. Universities should complete the ‘First Stage Registration Form’ and send the scanned copy by email to nuedc@sjtu.edu.cn by April 10, 2022. This form can be downloaded from website: http://nuedc.sjtu.edu.cn.

ii)    Registration of detailed team member information.  The detailed information of team members (including names, university, etc.) needs to be registered before May 31, 2022 according to the registration information on website http://nuedc.sjtu.edu.cn. After registration, a scanned copy of the registration information with team members’ signatures should be sent back to the organizing committee by email (nuedc@sjtu.edu.cn) before May 31, 2022.

     2)Training

Training workshops for contest hardware and software platforms, including Intel® GNS-V40 board, FPGA board and Habana etc will be held online via live broadcast. Intel also provides systematic online curricula “Intel Digital Readiness”, which is designed for non-CS students, combined with the latest technology development trend, to help students get familiar with and master the three application directions of data statistics, computer vision and natural language processing in the field of artificial intelligence, as well as related internet of things applications.

Contest hardware platforms will be delivered to all participant teams on May 1, 2022.

     3)  Appraisals

Each team should submit the project topic before May 31, 2022 to the organizing committee.

Contest project due date is June 30, 2022. All participant teams should submit all necessary contest materials to the organizing committee on time, including: a brief introduction, a full report in English and a working system. The working language of the contest is English and Chinese.

i)    Brief introduction. Introduction template can be downloaded from ESDC website.

ii)   Full report.

For teams from Chinese Hong Kong SAR, and overseas, the full report in English is necessary, and the report should contain the following information: declaration of originality (template to be downloaded from website), title, abstract (within 120 words in English) and keywords, system schema, functions, and implementation, test plans and result analysis, and references. The report must be within 20 pages in English (font size 12, and single line spacing), including all the information required.

Teams from Chinese Hong Kong SAR, and overseas can also submit the full report in Chinese. If teams submit full report in Chinese, a detailed abstract in English is necessary within 6 pages (font size 12, single line spacing), including English title, abstract, system schema and implementation, test results.

iii)   Working system. The working system should be build on the assigned platform.

 

All teams are required to submit the brief introduction and full report before July 1st, 2022 via both email and post (two hardcopies), while the working system should be kept by the teams for appraisal. Details on submission will be announced in early June, 2022 on ESDC website.

 

The appraisal will be held on July 20~25, 2022 online. All participant teams are required to attend the judgment. In general, each team has no more than 30 min to for presentation and demonstration, including oral presentation (PPT), test for the working system and Q&A.

      4)  Awarding ceremony

Awarding ceremony details will be announced in July, 2022.
