Regulation for Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest-Embedded System Design Invitational Contest
(ESDC)

1. Overview
   Intel Cup Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest- Embedded System Design Invitational Contest, short as “Intel Cup Embedded System Design Contest” (ESDC) is one of the specialized contests under the “National Undergraduate Electronic Design Contest”. It will invite excellent undergraduate students from world wide universities to attend. And it aims to drive the development of embedded systems technology and enable the new usage models’ design based on the advanced embedded platforms, to advance the teaching reform of specialized core course in electronic and information field, to improve creativity and practice of undergraduate students.
2. Organization
   1) Intel Cup Embedded System Design Contest was initiated by Higher Education Department of Chinese Ministry of Education together with Personnel and Education Department of Chinese Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, hosted by Shanghai Jiao Tong University, and is solely sponsored by Intel Corporation.
   2) Intel Cup Embedded System Design Contest organizing committee and an expert committee is set up to ensure the success of the contest.
   3) The organizing committee is responsible to set the contest scale, the university list to be invited, the number of teams that each university can submit, the rules and regulations of the competition, types and quantity of the awards, and timetable of the contest. It is also responsible to approve the appraisal results, to coordinate with the sponsor and to support the contest with any promotion in academia and industry.
   4) The expert committee is responsible to provide guidance for the workshop before contest and organize the appraisal. It is also responsible for the technical support during the contest.
   5) Each participating university should assign a faulty (only one) responsible for coordinating the registration and trainings of his/her own school according to the schedule, and for communication with the secretariat.
   6) The Contest is only open to undergraduate students. The participants should be actively enrolled as a student in an accredited college/university during the contest. Each team should consist of no more than three undergraduate students, and a faculty mentor.
3. Topics and Form of Competition
   1) The contest will follow the method of open problem proposal. All the teams should finish their design in their own schools respectively.
   2) The contest will provide an embedded IA platform based on Intel embedded processor with the corresponding Intel software to each participant team. All teams must develop system on the assigned platforms and submit necessary materials on time. The specifications of the platform will be disclosed after the contest formally launch.
   3) The contest project can be related to (but not limited to) the following areas: hardware, device driver, operating system, middleware, and application.
4. Participant Universities and Teams
   1) The Intel Cup ESDC will invite universities with high reputation in embedded system education from Chinese mainland and overseas to attend. The Contest is only open to the universities which are invited by committee.
   2) All expenses will be covered by the participant university, including travel expense, designing and manufacturing expense.
5. Training and Appraisal
   1) The organizing committee will provide contest related materials for online download. If there is any type of training, organizing committee will announce in advance.
   2) The Contest projects will be judged by the expert committee, and the winning projects will be awarded with Intel cup, first prize, second prize, and third prize. About 60% teams will win awards, including 8% for the first prize (includes one Intel Cup winner team), 16% for the second prize, and 36% for the third prize.
   3) The following is a list of the criteria used to evaluate submitted projects, to which you should pay attention during the design:
   -- The effectiveness of resource utilization.
   -- The originality and specialty of the project idea.
   -- The scale and complexity of the project.
   -- The completeness of testing strategy and plan.
   -- The quality and presentation of your reports. (This is the document used to win support from the public.)
 -- Your presentation performance during the face to face appraisal.
   4) The appraisal result should be approved by the contest organizing committee, and then will be released on website. Each winner will be granted a certificate by the organizing committee.
   5) The awarding ceremony will be held after appraisal.
   6) After the release of the appraisal result, the organizing committee has the right to cancel the team’s award if any violation of the rules and regulations is found. Everyone has the right to report the violation, but the reporter should provide his/her real name, organization, contact information and hard evidence of the violation. The organizing committee will not accept an anonymous report.
6. Timetable
   1) The Intel Cup Embedded System Contest will be held every even year.
   2) The contest events include: registration, opening and training, contest, appraisal and awarding. The detailed schedule will be announced in November or December of the previous year.
7. Intellectual Property of the Competing Projects
   1) The intellectual property of the competing projects shall be owned by the participant university. Intel, including Intel Corporation and its subsidiaries, shall have the right to freely use and publish (no exposure of technical details) the competing projects. If Intel needs to use the contest project for any other purpose, Intel should negotiate with the university and sign related agreement.
   2) Participants shall secure the rights to use any third party’s intellectual property through proper licensing at their own cost, and shall be liable for the loss and claim resulting from the infringement of third party’s intellectual property, and protect the organizing committee, host, sponsor and clients against any claim to the loss of damages.
  3) During the contest and the appraisal, the participant teams shall not transfer or grant permission of their project to any third party.
   4) Teams that cannot attend the final judging for whatever reasons must return the equipment and software provided by the organizing committee.
